Miami International Boat
Show FEBRUARY 2002
The Miami International Boat Show,
the world's largest consumer marine exhibitions, will
celebrate its 61st anniversary when it opens its doors
Feb. 14, 2002, for a six-day run at the Miami Beach
Convention Center and Sealine Marina and Yachting Center.
Known as the marine industry's
premier consumer event, the Miami International Boat Show
will bring together the latest powerboats, engines,
electronics and accessories from 2,300 exhibitors on more
than 2.5 million square feet of exhibition space.
The Miami International Boat
Show has grown into the `granddaddy' of all consumer boat
shows. Boating enthusiasts from around the world come to
Miami each February knowing they can get the best buys on
the newest products.
Winter Music Conference
MARCH 2002
In March 2002, more than 6,500
music industry professionals and enthusiasts from around
the world converged in Miami Beach for the 17th Annual
Winter Music Conference. WMC is credited as the most
important date on the dance music calendar where every
aspect of the industry worldwide comes together. During
the course of the five-day conference week, relationships
are forged, deals struck and some of the biggest records
of the year debut. Representatives from 51 countries were
in attendance this year including executives from major
and independent record labels, publishers, promoters,
managers, agents, artists, DJs, remixers, producers,
radio and video programmers, retailers, internet
companies, as well as equipment hardware and software
manufacturers. More than 500 print and electronic
journalists covered WMC 2001.
The exposure WMC provides is
invaluable for performing artists and DJs. A who's who
billing of legendary international artists and DJs will
perform during five non-stop nights of showcasing at more
than 38 venues throughout South Beach. Unsigned artists,
producers and DJs have an ideal platform to showcase
their talents at WMC's New Artist Showcases, Demo
Listening Workshops and DJ Spin-Off. These are must see
events for A&R reps searching for their next success
story.
Acura SORC Boat Race
November 2001 & March 6-10, 2002
The Acura Southern Ocean Racing
Conference (SORC) regatta, Florida's winter ocean racing
classic, will celebrate its 62nd anniversary in March
2002.Acura is returning to Miami as the title sponsor for
the third year. The series will be raced off Miami Beach
in late February/early March dates are still yet
to be determined. The SORC was founded in the late 1930's
by a conference of Florida yacht clubs and a Bahamian
club. As originally conceived, the SORC was a mix of
long-distance overnight races plus local day racing. The
series spread out over a six-week season that started in
St Petersburg and took in Miami and Fort Lauderdale
before finishing in Nassau. Today, the emphasis is on
multiple day races, and prize giving social events every
evening, to fit modern lifestyles. Race management is
provided by volunteers from the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club,
the Coral Reef Yacht Club and the Miami Yacht Club from
Miami. Also, the Lauderdale Yacht Club and the Nassau
Yacht Club. Additional features also include the sailing
industry village organized by the event's media partner,
Sailing World magazine, the country's leading performance
sailing magazine. Gear and equipment manufacturers will
show their wares in a series of individual booths
fringing the regatta site.
Organizers anticipate the growing
emphasis on one-design classes to continue, with entries
expected from Corel 45, Farr 40, 1D35, J/105, Hobie 33,
Henderson 30, Mumm 30, and Melges 24 classes. The event
will provide a one-design class start to five or more
boats of the same class. There will also be racing for
handicap classes including IMS, PHRF, MORC and
Multihulls.
